Ringworm is very common, especially among children, and may be spread by skin-to-skin contact, as well as via contact with contaminated items such as hairbrushes. Ringworm spreads readily, as those infected are contagious even before they show symptoms of the disease.

It was originally thought that the infection known as “Ringworm” was caused by a worm which infected certain animals, and created a circular lesion on an animal when it curled up underneath the skin. Ringworm can be transmitted from human to human, through contact with animals and in public changing areas such as health clubs. Schools and nurseries are the ideal places for your kids to develop ringworm.

Ringworm is diagnosed by the appearance of the lesions, plus the results of one or more tests. There is a risk for each one of us to catch ringworms, but more vulnerable are people that suffer from eczema. Some types of ringworm will glow under ultraviolet light. Ringworm in dogs and cats is more common than you might think.

Some Cures for Ringworms are:

Tree tea oil – known to be very antifungal so it has been proven to work well as a natural cure for ringworm. Tree tea oil can also be applied directly to the skin undiluted if you wish or can be added to a aloe vera lotion. Aloe – You can look for natural creams that contain aloe and they will work on the ringworm but it is always better to apply the gel from a fresh leaf of an aloe plant to the ringworm rash and it will give a cooling effect. The aloe will help with the irritation on the skin and help heal the rash.

Papaya – Raw papaya may be one of the best known natural cures for ringworm. The enzyme in papaya helps to kill the fungus that causes ringworm. Take a slice of the raw papaya and rub it on to the patches of the ringworm rash. Let it sit on the rash for at least 15 minutes at a time and then you can wash off with hot water. A paste can also be made from the ground up papaya seeds to help treat the ringworm.
